Electrolytics must be installed with correct polarity to avoid damage and possible explosion. The stripe on the side points to the negative lead, which is typically also the shorter lead.
Note that the vinyl sleeve can add a bit to the outer dimensions, .5m to the diameter and 2mm to length worst case.
